RCN Ships Electronic Countermeasure Systems

Ships employ many means of countermeasures against enemy attack through various methods including Infrared suppression, Shield decoys, Chaff, Flares and Towed acoustic decoy. 

The Naval Museum of Alberta has a collection of countermeasure systems including CORVUS a chaff launching system designed for self-defence of against surface-to-surface and air-to-surface missiles, and an example of the Shield missile defence system that launches chaff and infra-red flares as decoys to deflect radar-guided or heat seeking anti-ship missiles.
