HMCS Halifax - K237

K237 was the first of two RCN ships named “Halifax,” the other being a frigate currently in service. K237 was commissioned on 26 November 1941 as part of the new revised Flower class, and the first RCN ship completed with the program’s extended forecastle.

Most of her early service was in the Caribbean as part of the Aruba Tanker Convoys in 1942 and under US control for New York-Guantanamo convoys until March 1943.

Following a series of refits in 1943 and 1944, she briefly joined the Halifax force before transferring to Escort Group C-9 in February 1945 for the rest of the war. She was paid off on July 12th of that year.
