Lt. (P) William Bell Asbridge RCNVR

The first Canadian pilot to die in combat over the Japanese home islands. Originally from Edmonton, Lt. Asbridge was appointed as a Probationary Sub-Lieutenant RCNVR (With seniority dated 23/01/1944). He served in H.M.S. St. Vincent for Pilot Training. He then served in USNAS Grosse Ile and USNAS Pensacola for Training. He   ▸

The Last Canadian to Die in the Second World War Originally from Trenton, Ontario, Lt. (P) Gerald Arthur Anderson RCNVR was a Fleet Air Arm Pilot on HMS Formidable and had as his compatriots, Hammy Gray of BC and Bill Asbridge of Edmonton. All were lost in the Pacific campaign against   ▸

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

April 21, 1926 - September 8, 2022 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the International Fleet Review in Halifax in 2010. After taking the throne on February 6, 1952 and reigning for 70 years and 127 days, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96.   ▸

PO1 Julian, “Rocky” Verschuere, RCNVR, RCN

Julian George “Rocky” VERSCHUERE was born in Ghent, Belgium in 1922 and immigrated to Canada with his family 1928, settling in Drumheller Alberta. During the Second World War, Rocky joined the RCNVR in August 1942 and served overseas as a gunner in the 29th Canadian Motor Torpedo Boat (MTB) Flotilla   ▸
